Welcome to the Mountain Weather Information Service

We currently produce forecasts for 8 different mountain areas of the UK as an aid to mountain safety.

These forecasts are now viewed by 2 million visitors to our website a year, and can be read on the appropriate webpage, downloaded as a printable PDF, or accessed via internet enabled mobile phone.

The production of the Scottish forecasts is fully funded by the Scottish Government through The Mountaineering Council of Scotland with the support of sportscotland.

The production of the English and Welsh forecasts is currently unfunded and these are produced on a trial basis.

The website operating and development costs are funded through commercial sponsorship. This successful partnership between public and private funding allows us to continue to provide a reliable professional service completely free of charge.

As part of our ongoing development plan, an online educational resource is being created that will allow hill-goers of all ages and skill levels to learn more about the weather that can have such an influence on their safety decisions.

As always, please continue to give us feedback about what you think of our website, service and future development plans. You can subscribe to our mailing list if you'd like us to keep you informed about what we're up to!

We've been featured on the BBC2 programme, Landward. You can read the article and watch the programme here.

MWIS is happy to support Michael Tunney in his attempt to do the 'Scottish 4,000ers' in June of this year. Michael is doing this in support of Oban MRT. Please check out his blog for more info on Michael and how you can help.
