Small risk light rain northernmost Sutherland. Otherwise, largely dry but in afternoon a few heavy showers, most likely on and near Skye.


Cloud on the hills?

Extensively clearing, especially west

Generally, cloud base quickly rising to clear the summits, especially near west coast, but in and after rain, banks of cloud forming in places above 300 to 600m. Chance of extensive low cloud where rain is persistent, most likely only far north.

Bright sun, mainly morning. The air very clear, but visibility very poor in heavy rain, and at times foggy on even lower slopes.

Planning Outlook for all mountain areas from Tuesday, 21st May, 2013

Turning appreciably colder particularly across the Highlands with freezing levels as low as 700m by Thursday and some snow showers. Wind chill will be severe in gale force northerly winds. Further south not quite as cold with only a few showers in the east, bright sunshine and widely excellent visibilities. Turning cloudier and less cold from the northwest by the weekend with freezing levels near highest summits. Also patches of rain or showers most days.
